Economics Class
Welcome to Economics Class!
This semester you will be studying the American system of Economics with a focus on personal financial planning. This course is aligned with the Arizona Department of Education Academic Standards for the Social Studies. During Economics students will be studying the basic economic goals, perfomance, and problems of basic economic systems. The following topics will be explored: ( the Strand and Concept in brackets corresponds to the Arizona State Standards)
Foundations of Economics [Strand 5 Concept 1 PO 1-4]
(includes scarcity, opportunity cost, trade-offs, factors of production, entrepreneurship, technology, production possibilities curve, marginal analysis, property rights, profit motive, consumer sovereignty, competition, role of the government, rational self-interest, invisible hand,and others.)
Global Economics [Strand 5 Concept 4 PO 1-2]
(includes mixed economies, market economies, command economies, private ownership, competition, government regulation, international trade, balance of trade, balance of payments, and more)
Macro-Economics [Strand 5 Concept 3 PO 1-7]
(includes inflation, unemployment, gross domestic product, inflation, economic growth, banking regulation, financial services, monetary policy, investment, and more)
Micro-Economics [Strand 5 Concept 2 PO 1-3]
(includes supply, demand, voluntary exchange, surplus, shortage, taxes, price floors & ceilings, competition, market structure, circular flow model, and more.)
Personal Finance [ Strand 5 Concept 5 PO 1-6]
(includes education, chareers, advertising, goal setting, income, spending/savings, budgets, creidt, debt, debt management, risk, return, liquidy, investment options- stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and MUCH more)
In addition to the State Standards, students in this class will also explore: how to prepare a personal income tax return, types of insurance, and uses of propaganda in economics. These will be included in personal finance.

Economics Course Exit Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course students will:
(1)Analyze the implications of the economic problem of scarcity.
(2)Use economic concepts, themes, theories, principles, and methods to analyze current events.
(3)Describe how households and firms are interdependent and how their relationship is affected by trade, exchange, money, and banking.
(4)Analyze the similarities and differences among economic systems.
(5)Describe the basic principles of microeconomics.
(6)Evaluate the economic role of government in the mixed-market economy.
(7)Describe the basic principles of macroeconomics.
(8)Describe the affects of Internetional trade on the United States and other nations.
(9)Apply the understanding of economics to personal financial choices.
